| A depleted Harimau Muda edged out Cheetahs | aXross The Line Posted: 28 Apr 2012 12:27 AM PDT
There was some comfort for Harimau Muda though, as Hougang United's top scorer Jordan Webb was left on the bench for unknown reasons.
Hougang United dominated the proceedings in the opening minutes, with the first chance coming as early as the second minute, when Ante Barac's freekick was headed over by Stansislav Vidakovic. Harimau Muda had their chances but Nazirul Naim and D Saarvindran skied their efforts in the seventh and 10th minute. In the 11th minute, The Malaysians conceded their first corner in more than 190 minutes of football played, but the resulting corner was eventually cleared after some "pin ball" action in the 18 yards box. Hougang were pressing the Young Tigers very effectively, which resulted in many perfectly timed tackles by the Cheetahs. However, Harimau Muda went 1-0 up against the run of play in the 20th minute. Thamil Arasu sent Fadhil Salim the wrong way with his spot kick after Fazli Jaffar handled the ball off a cross from Nazmi Faiz. This was only the second time in Harimau Muda's last six matches that they had taken the lead. Hougang best chance came in the 29th minute but Sobrie Mazelan could only get his shot straight at Izham Tarmizi after being put through cleanly by his team mate. Captain Affize Faisal put his team 2-0 up in the 39th minute when his freekick from a Faizal Amir's foul on the edge of the box dipped over the defence into the bottom right corner beyond Fadhil's reach. Jordan Webb was brought on just before halftime to add some bite into Hougang's attack and he repaid the coach's faith in the four minutes after the break when he side footed Mamadou Diallo's pass into an open goal. Webb had chances to pull his team level but he could only shoot over from eight yards out in the 63rd minute and Izham saved right at his feet in the 67th minute. The towering Stansislav Vidakovic was stretchered off with what seemed to be a serious injury in the 74th minute, which was definitely a setback for Hougang to lose one of their "twin towers". There were confusion for a moment when Harimau Muda's players decided not to send the ball out when Syawan Tajudin was left injured just outside their own penalty area. The Hougang players reciprocated and played on after regaining control of the ball. Syazwan finally received medical attention after Affize cleared the ball out for a throw in. Harimau Muda reserve goalkeeper, Farhan Abu Bakar nearly made his S-League debut (as an outfield player though) but it was deemed unnecessary to make a change later. Affize finally put the game beyond Hougang's reach in the 90 th minute, when he side footed a Syahrul Azwari pass in the box into goal off a Nazmi's cross for his second and his team's third of the night. The relief of a hard fought win could be seen on the faces of the Malaysians with the celebration at the bench after the game. Hougang United coach, Nenad Bacina first words after the game probably summed up their season so far "Tough Luck!" | A Cheetahs Fan Blog: Gutsy Cheetahs 'outplayed' by Harimau ... Posted: 28 Apr 2012 09:27 AM PDT By www.hgfc.com.sg HMFC 3 Thamil Arasu 21' pen) Wan Affize 39',90' HGFC 1 It was a game of two halves, as Hougang and Harimau Muda both playing a 'Jekyll and Hyde' game that saw a measely 459 attendance in Harimau Muda's adopted home, Yishun Stadium. Harimau Muda saw four of their stalwarts, Wan Zack, Gary Robbat, Fadhli Shas and Mahali Jasuli, who were in Kuala Lumpur, on international duty against Hong Kong. However, having played together ever since they were young, the Young Tigers' players had telepathy in each of their play. The first half saw an Harimau Muda team full of confidence. And its of no surprise they took the lead in the 21st minute - with the help of referee Muhammad Taqi. A controlled chest from Fazli Jaffar, was adjudged to be manhandled by the left winger. The referee pointed to the penalty spot. Thamil Arasu, one of their main goalscorers this season, wasted no chance in converting the spot kick. A string of chances by Harimau Muda then followed through, and even had a goal disallowed through an offside position. However, they managed to increase their lead, again through the help of the referee. Lau Meng Meng was adjudged to manhandle one of the Harimau players. The resulting freekick by Wan Affize flew over the Hougang wall and into the bottom left hand corner, past custodian Fadhil Salim. By then, Nenad Bacina had enough of his team's inability to cope with Harimau Muda's attacks, and introduced his top scorer Jordan Webb in the 40th minute. The second half saw a stronger Hougang United, who had introduced playmaker Ridhwan Osman into the field to add more edge into their midfield. It worked wonders, as the substitute earned results. A good run from Mamadou Diallo from the right flank fooled the defence of Harimau Muda. His shot managed to be saved by Idzham Tarmizi, however the ball rebounded into the path of Jordan Webb, who managed to bring Hougang back to the game. Jordan then almost equalized the game, when Diallo's pass found him unmarked, but he managed to sky his shot. Jordan then was handed the best chance, when a long ball from Ridhwan Osman fooled the Harimau Muda defence. Jordan then had a one-on-one chance with Idzham Tarmizi, however, the custodian managed a fingertip save, to deny Hougang the equalizer. Hougang fans got worried in the 76th minute, when a collison between Stanislav Vidakovic and Nazmi Faiz caused the Croatian to collapse in a heap, and an ambulance had to be called to send him to hospital. However, as the game reached to its climax, Hougang had their hearts broken, when a mix-up between Fadhil Salim and Hasree Zais, was taken advantage by Wan Affize, and he slotted home to earn the three points for Harimau Muda. CHEETAHS MAN OF THE MATCH: Jordan Webb again earns plaudits to turn the game into Hougang's favour, however if he was clinical enough, it would earn Hougang the points and the famous result in Yishun. CHEETAHS' VERDICT: For the last five games, apart from the fixture in Jurong West, Hougang was dominant, either in one half or the entire game, but once again, their finishing touch was dismal. However, Hougang were left being rued by Harimau Muda time-wasting tactics and simulation, which was left unnoticed by the referee himself. Hougang would need to regain their confidence in their next game, to a more difficult opponent in DPMM FC in Brunei. Nenad Bacina would need his man to gain back their confidence in their first three games, which saw them scoring freely and climbing up the table again.
