Harimau Muda A captain Fadhil Shas is confident they are fully prepared for the trials that lie ahead in the Merdeka Tournament. The 2013 edition of the tournament – returning after a five-year absence – will see the Malaysian under-23′s begin their campaign against causeway rivals Singapore on Saturday in the opening match. With a stern test awaiting them on match-day one Fadhli insists the squad aren't phased and close-knit nature of the dressing room is an attribute not shared by other nations. "We are confident because we have been playing together for so long that we have formed a really good understanding with each other," he told Goal. "We are a very close knit group. Everyone enjoys the company of each other." A large proportion of the squad have already experienced competition football together under the guidance of talented coach Ong Kim Swee, most notably achieving a goal medal SEA Games in 2011. And Fadhil views the Merderka as a precursor to December's event, in which they will aim to make it onto the winners podium once again. "This tournament will also be a serious test to our SEA Games title credentials," he added. |
