An evening with Mohamad Fadhli Shas – Johor Southern Tigers

Johor Bahru 15/1/2014 : Definitely, he's a Johorean to the bones. This 23 years old defender was born in Lumut, Perak. His Johorean parents shifted back to JB for good and schooled him in Taman Sri Pulai and his footballing talents were further nourished in Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, Bandar Penawar. Then off to Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil, whilst there, he was selected to play for the Harimau Muda Team U21 in 2008 (there was no Harimau Muda A, B or C then) at a mere age of 17 years old.

Prior to joining Johor Darul Ta'zim, he was with the Harimau Muda A in Myanmar SEA Games which saw the Under 23 National side lost in the semi's to Indonesia (3-4 penalties) and managed 4th placing to bronze medallist Singapore with a 1-2 score.

"We were rather out of luck, our morale were rather low after the lost against Indonesia. But still we've put on our best effort during the 3rd and 4th placing against Singapore" he murmured whence asked of his efforts during the last critical stage in Myanmar.

"I don't want to blame anyone or to particularly point my fingers to anyone in the team, but my principle is that we play as a team and when we lost, the whole team have to take responsibility and take it as a lesson". Indeed it was a lesson at a costly price for Malaysia's Harimau Muda A then.

"I'm grateful to TMJ for giving me the opportunity and a chance to play for Johor's Super League side. It truly is an honour to be back home and to train on home ground".

Would you eye and vie for any cups for JDT? "Of course I would like to win all cups for JDT, but we need to focus one at a time, ultimately the AFC Cup. The first step would be to win the Premiere League first".

On his placing and as a contender in JDT's first eleven, he said "I leave it to Coach Cesar Jimenez to evaluate my performance. It'll be a healthy challenge for me and my team mates too, definitely we have to compete against each other".

A tough competition indeed to be pitted against Aidil Zafuan and Baihakki Khaizan and as to whether he'd suit his playing style with both of these defenders, "I've played with Aidil Zafuan before and I know the extent of his talent, for Baihakki, I need to adapt fast and to catch up with his tune".

Ironically, Fadhli Shas is engaged to a 'Mek Molek' from Kelantan and shall tie the knot this year and lets just hope that to win the League title would be the best wedding present for him.
